The tent and RV sites have paved parking aprons. Cooking supplies and bedding are not provided. Interior furnishings include a futon and bunk beds with mattresses. The yurts sit on a wooden platform and have an electric light and space heater, but no additional electric plug-ins. It's a popular campground and tends to fill quickly.Įach yurt provides a cabin-like space for a family of five or six people. Fallen Leaf Lake is less crowded and not as well-known as Lake Tahoe, making this a great base camp for exploring the many sights and recreational activities in the area. The campground is typically open from mid-May through mid-October. The campground features 206 sites that include six yurts and standard tent and RV sites. The south shore of Lake Tahoe is less than a mile away. This permit must be purchased before you get to the Glen Alpine Trailhead.Fallen Leaf Campground is situated on the north shore of Fallen Leaf Lake and adjacent to Taylor Creek. Overnight hikers will need an overnight permit for Desolation Wilderness. Day hikers, pick up your permit at the self serve area at the trailhead. ![]() Attractions and Considerations: A wilderness permit is required. ![]() The Glen Alpine Trailhead offers a more moderate approach to the strenuous hike up Mt. A third spur takes you to Gilmore Lake and then on to Dicks Pass. Another moderate spur takes you to Half Moon or Alta Morris Lakes. This spur leads you past a small waterfall, a beautiful meadow and three alpine lakes. For a short walk, take the southern spur 3 miles to Grass Lake or stretch the hike to 6 miles all the way to Lake Aloha. Access: Many different hikes can be taken from this trailhead. Trailhead parking is across from Lily Lake. Continue until you see the Glen Alpine trailhead sign and turn left. Watch for bicyclists and other cars on this narrow, one-lane road. Directions to the trailhead: Take Highway 89 north approximately 3 miles from South Lake Tahoe to Fallen Leaf Lake Road.
